40 - Sunni

Tunisia, Germany

I was born and raised in Germany by my German mother and my Tunisian father. After finishing my studies (Psychology/International Relations/French Studies), I decided to discover Tunisia. During my studies in Germany I had the chance to study also abroad in Canada (Montreal) and in France (Paris). I went to Tunisia in 2010, in order to improve my Arabic skills. Today, I am still living in Tunisia were I still try to improve my Arabic. At the same time I work as an assistant Professor at University. I also work as a freelance translator and interpreter.

I recently enrolled in the Islamic Online University. I did this partly because I felt that I have a general lack of knowledge concerning my religion. But the main reason probably was, that I just wanted to show the One who created me that I care about the Way He prescribed for me. Caring about religion includes for me that I strive to put religion always first. I may not always succeed in this, but what counts for me, is the motivation to do so and the sensation of a feeling of loss when I failed to do so. At work this means for me having the courage to ask for a break in order to go to the mosque and to perform the congregational prayer. It means also not to accept to marry a woman just because I feel physically attracted to her. The main reason why I am not married yet is probably because I was – on the one hand - not ready or too weak to accept a woman who was acceptable in terms of religion but not physically. On the other hand, I was strong enough to refuse to accept women who were physically acceptable but not religiously.

My goals for the hereafter include performing the pilgrimage as soon as possible, improving my concentration during prayers, performing the Sunna of ‘Itikaf during Ramadan, extending the help for those in need and elaborating a plan in order to organize this more effectively and leaving a work that will benefit people after my death.

My goals for this life, which may – in some cases – interfere with my goals in the hereafter include for example finishing my doctor thesis about the representation of poverty in the monotheistic religions and their impact on social politics, raising pious children with a pious, beautiful and intelligent wife, gaining native speaker knowledge in Arabic and continuing my islamic studies.
