Blessings of the month of Ramadan

Blessings of the month of Ramadan

Hondek Created May 6, 2018 05:07

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful

The month of Ramadan is a blessed month for many reasons, so we must be sure to take advantage of all of its blessings. It is the month in which the Quran was revealed, in which the devils are chained, sins are forgiven, and good deeds are highly rewarded. There is a night near the end of Ramadan in which good deeds are worth a thousands months of worship.

Allah said:

The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Quran, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. Whoever reaches the month, let him fast during it. Whoever is ill or on a journey, then fast an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship, and he intends for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that to which he has guided you, that perhaps you will be grateful.

Surat al-Baqarah 2:185

During the month of Ramadan, Satan finds it more difficult to mislead the Muslims. It becomes easier for Muslims to perform good deeds and to ignore evil suggestions and bad thoughts.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

When the month of Ramadan begins, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hellfire are closed and the devils are chained.

The month of Ramadan is blessed since Muslims can receive forgiveness for their sins due to their prayers and fasting out of sincere faith. We can have all of our sins forgiven in this month as long as we avoid major sins, as major sins like murder and theft require specific repentance and restoration of the rights of those who were violated.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

The five prayers, Friday to Friday, and Ramadan to Ramadan will be expiation for the sins between them, so long as major sins are avoided.

In another narration, the Prophet said:

Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan due to faith and seeking reward, then all of his previous sins will be forgiven.

And in another narration, the Prophet said:

Whoever stands in the night prayer during Ramadan due to faith and seeking reward, then all of his previous sins will be forgiven.

The month of Ramadan is blessed since the virtue of fasting is magnified, even though it is already a great virtue. Fasting benefits us by improving our devotion, self-control, and compassion for the poor. Fasting for the entire month is meant to instill the practice, philosophy, and values of fasting as a regular habit.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

Allah said: All the deeds of the children of Adam are for them, except fasting which is for me and I will reward it.

The Prophet said further:

Fasting is a shield. If one of you is fasting, he should avoid intimate relations with his wife and arguments. If somebody fights or argues with him, he should say: I am fasting. By him in whose hand is my soul, the unpleasant smell coming from the mouth of a fasting person is better to Allah than the smell of musk. There are two pleasures for the fasting person, one at the time of breaking his fast and the other when he meets his Lord; then he will be pleased due to his fasting.

Jabir reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

Verily, Allah has people he redeems at the time of breaking fast, and that is during every night.

The month of Ramadan is blessed since during it occurs the Night of Decree (laylat al-qadr) in which worship for one night is better than worship for a thousand months. This is an extra special night in which we should strive in prayer, supplication, remembrance, and worship. Whoever strives in worship on this night will receive tremendous rewards and have their sins forgiven.

Allah said:

Verily, We sent the Quran down during the Night of Decree. What will make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace is therein until the emergence of dawn.

Surat al-Qadar 97:1-5

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

Whoever stands in prayer during the Night of Decree out of faith and seeking reward, then Allah will forgive all of his previous sins.

Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 760, Grade: Sahih

In another narration, the Prophet said:

Allah has made a night during Ramadan that is better than a thousand months, so whoever is deprived of it is truly deprived.

Source: Musnad Aḥmad 7108, Grade: Sahih

The exact date of the Night of Decree is unknown to us, but it occurs on some day during the last ten nights of Ramadan. The wisdom of not knowing the night encourages us to strive hard in worship during all of the last ten days. Even if we miss it due to illness or another reason, perhaps Allah will reward us for our intention to seek it.

Ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

Look for the Night of Decree in the last ten nights of Ramadan, but if one of you is weak or frustrated then do not be overcome during the remaining seven nights.

Aisha reported:

The Prophet would exert himself in worship during the last ten nights more than at any other time.

Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1175, Grade: Sahih

It is recommended to perform a retreat (i’tikāf) inside the mosque during the last ten days of Ramadan to help us strive in worship. This practice can ensure that we will not miss the blessings of the Night of Decree and the blessings of Ramadan in its final days.

Aisha reported:

The Prophet used to retreat in the mosque during the last ten nights of Ramadan until Allah the Exalted took him. His wives continued to observe this practice after him.

Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1172, Grade: Sahih

Ash-Shafi’ee said:

Whoever desires to follow the example of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, should seek seclusion in the mosque during the last ten nights of Ramadan. Let him enter the mosque before the setting of the sun on the twenty first night.

In general, we want to utilize the blessings of this month to improve ourselves overall. Besides pray and fasting, Muslims want to greatly increase their other good deeds such as as reciting the Quran, forming good habits, and generously giving in charity.

Ibn Abbas reported:

The Prophet was the most generous of the people and he was even more generous during the month of Ramadan when Gabriel visited him. Gabriel, upon him be peace, would meet with him every night of Ramadan until the end of the month and the Prophet would recite the Quran to Gabriel. When Gabriel met him, he would be more generous than a swift wind bringing rain.

An-Nawawi said:

Our companions said that being generous and performing favors are highly recommended during Ramadan, specifically during the last ten nights. By doing so, we emulate the example of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, as well as our righteous predecessors (al-salaf al-ṣaliḥ). This month is honored and good works carried out in this month are more blessed than they are at any other time.

We ask Allah to allow us to reach this blessed month and to benefit from its virtues in this life and in the Hereafter

Success comes from Allah, and Allah knows best.

The supplications of the person, at the time of fasts, are not rejected :*

It was narrated by Abdullah bin umr bin al-aas - prophet muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:

"(the dua at the time of iftar for fasting is accepted.

Abdullah bin abi malaika said: I have heard of Abdullah bin amr bin abi al-aas:

O Allaah! I ask you from your mercy, who has covered all things that you may forgive me.

(Ref: Sunan ibn maaja, hadith number: 1753, shu'bul imaan lil-behaqi, hadith 3621, at-targheeb fi fadhailul a'maal libn-e-shaheen: 141, amal al-ayum wal-layla libn-as-sunni: 480, ad-duyau lit-tabarani: 919, al-mustadrak lil-haakim: 4221, ibn al-asaakir fil ma'jam: volume: 1 page: 365 narration no: 307)

Some of these scholars have declared the authentic or hassan

Imam Bawsari (رحمہ اللہ) said: (إسنادہ صحیح) with authentic isnaad (Ạtakhaaf al-khkayra volume: 3, page: 102)
Sheikh Shu'eeb al-sharnawutt said: (:إسنادہ حسن) with good chain ( Ibn Abi Maja Batahqeeq Shoaib al-arnawut: volume 2 page: 637)
Sheikh Ahmed Shakir (رحمہ اللہ) said: (وإسنادہ صحیح) " with authentic chain. volume: 1, page (225)
Sheikh Zubair Ali Zay (رحمہ اللہ) said: (حسن) " Hassan (Ibn Maja with the tahqeeq of hafith zubair ali zay: 1753)
The narrator of this Hadith Ravi Ishaaq bin ubaidullah al-madani was mentioned in kitaabu thiqaat by Hafiz Ibn Ḥibbaan.

Imam Ibn Asakir (رحمہ اللہ) said: (حسن غریب) hasanun ghareebun (Mu’ajam ash-shayuukh: volume: 1 page: ؍307)

Imam Bawsary (رحمہ اللہ) said: (إسنادہ صحیح رجالہ ثقات) The narration is authentic with narrators being thiqah (misbaahuz-zujaja fi zawaai’d ibn maaja, volume 2, page 81 raqam: 636)

In another narration:

Abu Hurairah radhiAllahu anhu narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“There are three whose supplication is not rejected:
(Tradition: 3598, Tradition Ibn Mạjہ: 1752, right ibn Kẖzy̰m1901)

This Hadith is called by Imam Tirmidhi (رحمہ اللہ) and graded as good and Imam Ibn Khuzaima (رحمہ اللہ) has mentioned in his sahih.
Hafiz Nadeem Zaheer (رحمہ اللہ) wrote: " this hadith is hasan, because abu mudillah is not majhool (unknown) but he’s hasan ul-hadith. (sunan ibn maaja bitakhreej wa tasheeh nadeem zaheer: 1752)
Hafiz Zubair Ali Zay (رحمہ اللہ) said: (إسنادہ حسن) with the good chain. (1752)
Sheikh Imran Ayub Lạhori (حفظہ اللہ) said: (حسن) Hasan (book of fasting page 72)
Imam Ibn Khuzaima (رحمہ اللہ), made a chapter on this hadith in these words:

The chapter in which it is mentioned that Allaah accept the supplications of the person who fasts till they complete their fast. May Allah include us among them, ameen. (Sahih Ibn Khuzaima before the hadith: 1901)

The conclusion is at the time of iftaar (or breaking the fast) the dua of the person who fasts wouldn't be rejected (In sha Allaah). We have such people who sleep after the asr prayer and get up at the time of iftaar (meaning the time of maghrib etc). And similarly there are women who stays in kitchen to create iftaar (dinner) etc and wasting the time of dua is not an appreciated act. Rather these time should be taken benefit from and should be used to ask forgiveness from sins (we did), asking for paradise (from Allaah) and seeking refuge (in Allaah) from Hell-fire.

Collected (in Urdu/Hindi) by: Hafiz Muhammad Shahid (حفظہ اللہ)

Oh Allaah, accepts our duas and forgive our shortcomings as we are not angels and in past and today and maybe tomorrow as well we do the sins but Ya Allaah, you are most forgiving so forgive our sins and forgive the sins of all the Muslim ummah and include us and our parents among the people who would go to jannah without being questioned, ameeen.
